Re: The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Kills Pets. Why? Because they can.
Elmira is in Western NY not too far from Buffalo, where I grew up. Elmira is surrounded by rural areas including a few pieces of Native American lands. Laws about pets are strict in NYC. Basically only dogs, cats, fish, small rodents and some birds are allowed. No snakes, ferrets or reptiles allowed...

Re: AT&T Neighborhood Data Center...Disguised As A House
There are structures like this for the NYC subway. Row houses or small industrial buildings that house ventilation shafts and electrical substations. They are meant to blend into the surroundings. The subway has it’s own grid. That’s nothing compared to the ICBM launch site that was sold in the Adir...

Re: New edition of Handbook for Sound Engineers any time soon?
I have the Tremaine, autographed by Al Grundy. That copy means a lot to me. I also have the Ballou 2nd edition. I consult them all the time. I guess I’m due for a new edition.

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
YPaul can tell us how much he needs to use it now versus then on program for cutting vinyl, still a growing trend. High frequency limiters have always been necessary for lacquer cutting. The earliest stereo cutting electronics had them. The Ortofon 632 was part of the first generation tube cutting ...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
I’d just add that the high frequency limiters I’m referencing work exceptionally well on single instruments. They are just overkill for most. The BSB74 was never sold as a standalone unit. Only as part of the cutting rack. The Maselec was 2-4X the price of most other de essers. Now that they are no ...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
I've had an interest in a de-esser/sibilance controller for vinyl and have wanted to wrap my head around the BSB74. It would need to be a dedicated box.. Jakob Erland once described it as S&M engineering. With the inductor based delay line. I have the BSB74 literature. If you need anything let ...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
I repeat my question is de-ess still a thing? It was a few decades ago. Yes it's still a thing and very useful. For a dedicated stereo compressor it would have to react favorably to stereo program material and not single instruments, including voice. I can count on less than one hand analog high fr...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
any interest in a de-ess side chain filter? Or is that not as much of problem these days? Since this is a stereo compressor a simple de esser like a DBX900 would be inadequate for most audio program. It would need to be a much fancier side chain than a bandpass filter. Floating threshold, reacts to...

Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information
The RIAA path through the first input has two coupling caps - one at the input the second at the output - so the cutoff is about 1.6X higher IIRC. With a FET op amp in the RIAA section you might be able to eliminate the one on the RIAA output. I always wondered whether it was better to drive the RI...
